[NEW] CompTIA Project+ Certification

Detailed Exam Domain Coverage

I have built this practice question bank to mirror the exact structure of the official CompTIA Project+ exam. Every question is mapped directly to one of the four core domains:

  • Domain 1: Project Management Concepts (33%)

    • Key Topics: Core project characteristics (temporary nature, unique outputs, defined purpose), choosing between methodologies and frameworks (DevOps, Scrum, PRINCE2, SAFe), and managing risk strategies and activities throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Domain 2: Project Life Cycle Phases (30%)

    • Key Topics: Initiation and formal charter development, detailed project planning, scheduling, resource allocation, managing day-to-day execution activities, performance monitoring, and executing formal closing procedures including lessons-learned documentation.

  • Domain 3: Tools and Documentation (19%)

    • Key Topics: Practical utilization of project management software, KPI tracking dashboards, creating partner-centric and internal documentation, and tackling performance-based reporting tasks.

  • Domain 4: Basics of IT and Governance (18%)

    • Key Topics: Navigating IT governance frameworks, ensuring regulatory compliance, managing security and data privacy considerations during deployment, and assessing Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) factors.

I created these CompTIA Project+ practice tests because I noticed a major gap in existing study materials: most practice questions fail to explain why the wrong answers are wrong. When you are preparing for a professional IT certification, understanding the logic behind incorrect choices is just as important as knowing the right answer.

I designed this question bank to close that gap. Every scenario is written to match the difficulty, tone, and practical context of the real exam. I avoid purely theoretical definitions and focus on realistic business scenarios—such as managing scope creep, selecting the right agile framework for a scaling team, or ensuring your project complies with modern data privacy laws. By working through these questions, you will train your mind to look for the subtle keywords and constraints that CompTIA uses to test your practical decision-making skills.

Sample Practice Questions Preview

Question 1: Agile Framework Selection

An enterprise organization wants to scale its agile practices across multiple development teams to ensure they all align with overall corporate strategy and product streams. Which framework or methodology should the project manager recommend for this specific scenario?

  • Option A: Scrum

  • Option B: SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework)

  • Option C: DevOps

  • Option D: PRINCE2

  • Option E: Kanban

  • Option F: Traditional Waterfall

Correct Answer: Option B

Detailed Explanations:

  • Option A (Incorrect): Scrum is highly effective for individual, cross-functional teams (typically 5–9 members), but it does not natively provide the structural mechanisms needed to scale across dozens of synchronized enterprise teams.

  • Option B (Correct): SAFe (Scaled Agile Framework) is specifically designed to scale agile practices up to the enterprise level, aligning multiple teams with high-level corporate strategy and portfolio management.

  • Option C (Incorrect): DevOps focuses primarily on breaking down silos between software development and IT operations to shorten deployment lifecycles, rather than offering a framework for scaling team-wide agile project management.

  • Option D (Incorrect): PRINCE2 is a structured, process-driven project management methodology widely used in corporate environments, but it is fundamentally a predictive/traditional framework, not a scaled agile framework.

  • Option E (Incorrect): Kanban uses visual boards to optimize workflow and limit work-in-progress, but it lacks the built-in enterprise alignment roles and cadences provided by SAFe.

  • Option F (Incorrect): Traditional Waterfall relies on sequential, predictive phases where scope is locked early, making it the opposite of an agile framework designed for iterative flexibility.

Question 2: Project Lifecycle Responsibilities

During a newly initiated software deployment project, a key stakeholder asks when the project manager is officially granted the authority to begin allocating corporate resources and spending the approved budget. In which document and life cycle phase does this formal authorization occur?

  • Option A: Project Management Plan in the Planning Phase

  • Option B: Project Charter in the Initiation Phase

  • Option C: Scope Statement in the Planning Phase

  • Option D: Lessons Learned in the Closing Phase

  • Option E: SOW (Statement of Work) in the Pre-Project Phase

  • Option F: Work Performance Report in the Execution Phase

Correct Answer: Option B

Detailed Explanations:

  • Option A (Incorrect): The Project Management Plan outlines how the project will be executed, monitored, and controlled, but it is built after the project has already been formally authorized.

  • Option B (Correct): The Project Charter is developed during the Initiation Phase and formally signs off on the project’s existence, giving the project manager the legitimate authority to assign resources and apply organizational capital.

  • Option C (Incorrect): The Scope Statement defines the boundaries of the project deliverables during planning, but it does not serve as the fundamental chartering document that initiates the project.

  • Option D (Incorrect): Lessons Learned documentation is compiled during the Closing Phase to capture insights for future endeavors, well after resources have been spent.

  • Option E (Incorrect): A Statement of Work (SOW) describes the work to be done by a vendor before a contract is finalized, but it does not formally authorize an internal project team to begin resource deployment.

  • Option F (Incorrect): Work Performance Reports are generated during Execution to communicate status, metrics, and progress, not to establish project authority.

Question 3: Security & Compliance Integration

A project manager is overseeing a cloud migration project that handles customer data across multiple geographic locations, including Europe. A local legal team notes that the project must strictly adhere to regional user privacy rules. Which area of project governance does this requirement fall under?

  • Option A: Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG)

  • Option E: Scope Management Plan

  • Option C: Procurement Management

  • Option D: IT Governance and Privacy Compliance

  • Option E: Change Control Board (CCB)

  • Option F: Configuration Management

Correct Answer: Option D

Detailed Explanations:

  • Option A (Incorrect): ESG factors focus on environmental sustainability, social impacts, and ethical corporate leadership, rather than legal data privacy regulations like GDPR.

  • Option B (Incorrect): The Scope Management Plan outlines how the project scope will be defined and controlled, but it does not explicitly handle external data privacy legislation compliance.

  • Option C (Incorrect): Procurement Management deals with purchasing goods and services from external vendors, not the regulatory framework governing customer data handling.

  • Option D (Correct): IT Governance and Privacy Compliance covers the frameworks, laws, and regulations (like GDPR or HIPAA) that dictate how organizations must protect data, manage security, and remain legally compliant during IT projects.

  • Option E (Incorrect): The Change Control Board evaluates, approves, or rejects changes to project baselines, but it is not a governance framework for data compliance.

  • Option F (Incorrect): Configuration Management tracks versions and components of software/hardware items, not legal and regulatory compliance parameters.
